This list features "Trois Gymnopédies" for piano by French composer Erik Satie (1866-1925). Virtually unknown at the time of its publication, it only achieved any type of popularity after the composer (and Satie friend) Claude Debussy orchestrated the 1st and 3rd movements. (Debussy believed the 2nd movement unfit for orchestration.) Nowadays, of course, the 1st movement in particular is heard everywhere, from movies and commercials to shopping malls and train stations.
